Agarwood oil, also known as oud oil, is a rare and precious essential oil obtained from the resinous heartwood of Aquilaria trees, mainly Aquilaria malaccensis and Aquilaria crassna. The oil is produced when the tree becomes naturally infected by a type of mold, which triggers the formation of a dark, fragrant resin within the wood. This resinous wood is distilled to yield a thick, dark golden to deep amber oil with a complex aroma profile. Agarwood oil is renowned for its deep, warm, woody fragrance, enriched with sweet, balsamic, earthy, and slightly animalic undertones that evolve beautifully on the skin, making it one of the most valued materials in high-end perfumery. Beyond its use as a luxurious natural perfume, it holds great significance in spiritual and cultural practices, often burned in temples or used in meditation for its grounding and calming qualities.
